Early Bird Rotary Raffle a Success

Sheboygan – After their regular morning club meeting on December 15, new member, Steve Roelse(left) and club President, Tom Bartz(right) award Ms. Patty Taylor, staff at Lakeland College with her winning 1st place prize package of 4 Green Bay/Detroit game tickets for January 1st at Lambeau Field. Each year, Sheboygan Early Bird Rotary Club and its Foundation grant several deserving local students scholarships to area technical colleges. This raffle sale netted the club over $3,000 for this worthy cause. Early Bird Rotary meets every Thursday morning at Al and Al’s on South 12th Street from 7-8am to promote Rotary International’s mission of providing service to others, promoting high ethical standards, advancing world understanding and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders. Early Bird Rotarians are gearing up to work at the Rebuilding Together work day in Sheboygan Saturday, April 30.

Rebuilding Together is the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. Our network of more than 200 affiliates provides free rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes
of low-income Americans.

What we do:
Rebuilding Together believes in a safe and healthy home for every person. This means that we believe disabled and aging homeowners should be able to remain in their homes for as long as possible. We believe that homeowners displaced by natural disaster will get back into safe housing with help from the community. We believe that our nation’s veterans with disabilities deserve safe and accessible homes. Rebuilding Together believes we can preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities by providing free home modifications and repairs, making homes safer, more accessible, and more energy efficient.

Who we help:
As the economic pressure on low-income families grows, more and more families are placed in the position of choosing between vital necessities and essential home repairs and modifications.

Ann Rogers and Tom Marcy named Paul Harris Fellows

Two Early Bird Rotary members were recently recognized as Paul Harris Fellows, Club President Ann Rogers and Tom Marcy. The Paul Harris Society is a special district recognition program designed for Rotarians who wish to support The Rotary Foundation in a more substantial way each year. The Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotarians and friends of The Rotary Foundation who annuallycontribute US $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, and PolioPlus Partners, or the Humanitarian Grants Program.

Contributions to The Rotary Foundation support our goal of advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace. An annual contribution of $1,000 can help provide:

A well for clean water to a community in India
Equipment for a children's library in Ecuador
Polio vaccine for numerous children
Playground equipment, musical instruments,
and therapeutic toys for rehabilitating orphans
and other children in the Czech Republic
Eyeglasses for needy adults in the Philippines
Funding for a portion of a Group Study
Exchange

The first Paul Harris Society was established in 1998 in District 5340 (California, USA) by District
Governor Wayne C. Cusick. The idea gained momentum and quickly spread to other districts
throughout the world. The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation officially approved the Paul Harris
Society as a district-administered recognition program effective 1 July 2006.

It may be cold outside, but the members of Early Bird Rotary are planning a hot party in Fountain Park. Save the date for the 2011 Lobster Boil--Friday, July 22, 2011--a party with a purpose. Packed with lobster, live music and a festive atmosphere, plan on joining in the fun. Proceeds from this fundraiser support the Early Bird Rotary Foundation and are returned to our community through grants and scholarships. Tickets will be available in June through members of Early Bird Rotary. Stay tuned for more information.

Early Bird Rotary Announces Rotarian of the Year Award

Bob Feider presented the 2008-2009 Rotarian of the year award to Sebastian Schmidt. Sebastian has been instrumental in the growth of our club membership, especially while he was the Club President in 2007-2008. Sebastian also hosted a club event at Kurtz North America this year, and recently organized an international rotary trip to Germany. Sebastian represents "service above self" in his everyday actions, and our club is proud to award him the Rotarian of the Year award.

Rotary Makes Pledge to Hospice Center

Sheboygan, WI - Sheboygan's Early Bird Rotary Foundation President, Bob Feider, made a $2,500 pledge to the Sharon S. Richardson's Community Hospice Development Director and Rotarian, Linda Cates in support of area families through their Patient Care Fund. In 2007 the Foundation also provided a gift of $3,000 to support the building of the Central Lakeshore's only Hospice facility. The funds for this type of community support are generated from the Club's Annual Lobster Boil scheduled for July 24, 2009 at Fountain Park in Sheboygan.
